Abstract

This study conducts a comparative analysis of food security policymaking in Iran and Turkey. The significance of the research lies in the fact that, despite their similar cultural backgrounds, the two countries have adopted different approaches to food security policymaking due to their distinct economic and political structures. The main research question examines how food security policymaking in Iran and Turkey can be analyzed and compared based on each country’s political, economic, and institutional components. The study employs a qualitative and comparative methodology, with data collected through documentary analysis and documented interviews. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis to extract the main themes of food security policymaking in each country. The findings indicate that Turkey, by adopting a market-oriented, technology-driven, and participatory approach, has improved its level of food security and agricultural productivity. In contrast, Iran’s supportive and interventionist policies, while helping to control price fluctuations, have faced challenges such as low productivity and financial pressure on the government.
